While browsing for some Historical information about Fell's Point on my wikipedia bible, I read something quite interesting...

""Fell's Point is a neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland, and home to a variety of shops, restaurants, coffee bars, music stores and over 120 pubs.""

120 pubs? Really? Well I know couple of them (pretty well) but 120?

So I decided, after a (very) long reflexion, that I will sacrifice myself to make you discover the secrets and stories of these 120 pubs. Brasserie Beck in DC... Ooh La La!

Recently we went to DC for a double-date nigth with Lauren and Paul... Brasserie Beck! Awesome times, great friends, outstanding dinner! If you are looking for a Northern French-Flamish -Belgian experience, I will definitely recommend that place. Imported Belgian brews are from $5 to $125 (yes.. $125 for a Scottish 41% ABV beer called "Sink the Bismarck")

Snails invasion

Last weekend, the FS Primauguet was in town for couple days. It is always something special when tall ship visits... It usually creates some fun stories and great memories like when the British invaded Fells Point for 10 days last year! But it is something even more special when the ship comes from your country. I was proud to see them, even if I didn't know anyone on board. Well, "jokes" about French surrenders and blablabla were obviously flying around. Some people just forgot what they learned in school or maybe they surrendered history class...

But anyway, I am not here to give you a history lesson, hell no, I am not that pretentious! So I met some of them on Friday night after Yves, former Navy commando now living his new parenthood life in Charm City, called me all excited to see that many French speakers in town. It is actually pretty fun to see the effect of an uniform and a French accent on some ladies... We bar-hopped for a while to meet French sailors and welcome them in town. Everybody from the ship seemed really enthusiast about this visit and I am sure reactions of some ladies helped it. Apparently their schedule was well organized as some of them were actually already in DC or NYC and most of them were invited to a NBA game the following night at the Verizon Center. Yves and I spread the word about the match vs England in Six Nations and about Lille vs Lyon. A nice French crowd was cheering on "Les Bleus" despite the loss and an even more big attendance joined me and Alain at Slainte to watch the clash in French League. A nice surprised came from Issa who went back to the ship to bring a hat to Bridget. Really nice gift followed by a strip tease of one of the junior who gave away his uniform for a picture! And it was just the beginning of a long and epic night...

I was assigned to a commando mission to retrieve the pub's rug stolen by the Sailors who wanted to complete their nice collection with a piece from Baltimore. The commando mission turned out to become a private tour of the FS Primauguet on a Sunday at 11PM... I think I saw everything with detailed explanation of the different mission the French destroyer has been assigned to. The night ended around 1:00AM after all sailors went back to the ship to spend one of their last night in Baltimore. It was really awesome to share experiences with some of them. Everyone seemed really interested in everything and I really enjoyed being their private guide.

Hope another ship will visit soon, wherever it come from!

A World Premiere!

Hi World!

It feels good to be back on the blogosphere! This time in the language of Shakespeare. No pretencions at all so forgive me for all typos, grammatical and other mistakes that will come along my stories.

Why a blog and why "Snails with a chance of whiskey"?
Well the blog is essentially aimed to share our daily adventures with family and friends... The mix of French and Irish culture in the US! Like the book and movie "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs", this blog will tell the story of our life when the weather comes three times a day, at breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is always food and beverages. Everything we do is related to food, everything! We could not survive without food. To be exact, French people could not survive without bread and red wine and Irish people without potatoes and whiskey!

We both share the joy of cooking and discovering new flavors. Well, she also always tells me that I am weird when I take picture of my food. But wait for it! It's food... every plate is a piece of art! She recently understood that my weirdness is directly linked to where I come from... where snails are king! Our recent trip to Paris opened her eyes to the French World and I can't wait to explore the Emerald Isle.

If you are looking for restaurant reviews, you pick the wrong blog. I am not pretentious enough to criticize any restaurant even if I will definitely share my experiences. If you are looking for recipes, yes, you may have a chance to get some... But don't expect me to give you the exact measurements, I am myself unable to follow instructions in general. And food is made to let your creation speaks! This blog will definitely be a "pele-mele" of living experience with food on the side.
